According to a report by SaharaReporters, a Nigerian soldier identified as Muhammad Abdulrauf is reportedly alive and receiving treatment after being brutally attacked by a mob in the Mai Gero area of Kaduna State.

Initial reports circulating on social media claimed that Abdulrauf, popularly known as “Didan Tero,” had died after being beaten by residents who allegedly mistook him for a bandit.

However, sources cited by SaharaReporters said the soldier survived the attack and is currently undergoing treatment at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital.

According to the report:

Residents allegedly suspected him of being connected to armed groups operating in the area.

The community has reportedly experienced repeated attacks and kidnappings by bandits, creating heightened fear and suspicion.

Sources claimed his clothing resembled attire commonly associated with insurgents or bandits in the region, leading residents to wrongly identify him as a threat.

The report states that Abdulrauf belongs to the Nigerian Army’s 21NA intake and serves in military operations around Maiduguri. He was reportedly on leave when the incident occurred.

The case highlights the dangers of mob justice, particularly in communities affected by prolonged insecurity. In areas where residents live under constant fear of kidnappings and attacks, mistaken identity can have severe consequences.

Authorities have not publicly released a detailed official statement on the incident at the time reflected in the report. As with any developing story, further verification from the Nigerian Army, police, or other official sources may provide additional details.

The reported survival of the soldier contradicts earlier social media claims that he had died, emphasizing the importance of verifying information before sharing it online.
