Controversial media figure Darlington Okoye, widely known as Speed Darlington, has been released on bail after being held in police custody. His release was confirmed by human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju, who explained that Speed Darlington was initially detained in Lagos last Friday before being transferred to Abuja.
The lawyer clarified that the detention followed a formal complaint by Burna Boy, accusing Speed Darlington of defamation and cyberstalking the Grammy-winning artist.
On Tuesday evening, Speed Darlington was released to his legal representative after fulfilling the bail conditions set by the Abuja police. Adeyanju shared this update through a post on his X account, expressing gratitude to those who supported the singer’s release and praising the professionalism of the police in the Intelligence Response Team (IRT).
Adeyanju also acknowledged the contributions of activist Omoyele Sowore and lawyer Stan Alieke, who played key roles in securing Speed Darlington’s release.
“Special appreciation to #YeleSowore, super reliable senior lawyer #stanalieke, and to all Nigerians for raising their voice for Speed Darlington. Must also appreciate Prof Sanusi and his team at IRT for the professionalism today,” the post stated.
In a video that has gained widespread attention, Speed Darlington had challenged Burna Boy to clarify how he won the Grammy for his album *Twice As Tall*. He also made references to Burna Boy’s association with the troubled US rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, who is facing various allegations including sexual exploitation and human trafficking.
