Gani Adams, the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration, claiming it fails to offer hope to Nigerians. The leader of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) asserted that the economic and security policies under President Tinubu have only exacerbated the difficulties faced by the populace.

In an open letter titled “State of the Nation” released on Tuesday, Adams accused Tinubu of adopting authoritarian tactics, particularly in response to the #EndBadGovernance protests, which he likened to actions taken by previous administrations.

Adams expressed disillusionment with Tinubu, arguing that despite the initial optimism surrounding his campaign and promises of improved governance compared to his predecessor Muhammadu Buhari, the current administration has fallen short. He highlighted the deteriorating economic conditions, citing the dramatic increase in fuel prices and the depreciation of the Naira against the Dollar since Tinubu’s rise to power.

Furthermore, Adams questioned the efficacy of Tinubu’s economic team, including former Lagos State officials Wale Edun and Yemi Cardoso, who now hold key economic positions. He criticized the administration’s handling of the fuel subsidy removal and the rising inflation and unemployment rates, which he believes reflect poor governance.

He also condemned the administration’s approach to dissent, noting a significant rise in insecurity and the repression of civil society groups. Adams lamented the harsh treatment of protesters and human rights activists, pointing out that many are facing severe charges for expressing their grievances.

Adams concluded by highlighting the worsening poverty and unemployment rates, emphasizing that Tinubu’s policies have led to a significant decline in living standards for many Nigerians.
